Savor The Tranquility Of This Krk Hotel By The Sea
Immerse yourself in the myriad charms of the Adriatic at our Riu Krk hotel. You won't find large beaches on its coast, but rather a host of small coves bathed by waters that are always calm and clean. The tranquillity of the waters on the coast of Croatia is an invitation to practise numerous aquatic activities, ranging from sailing to diving, as well as offering a safe environment for the smaller members of the family.
Krk can also boast picturesque villages with stone as their main feature, and where the characteristic orange-coloured rooftops blend naturally into the landscape. Strolling around the narrow alleyways that wind through the many villages which adorn the island will help you discover the customs of its inhabitants, who are as friendly as they are proud of their traditions.

Beaches in Malinska
There are several beaches around Malinska; some are pebble beaches and others sandy (uncommon in Croatia), but all are beautiful.
They all share the crystal-clear and placid waters of the Adriatic Sea, ideal for children. They are also very popular to practise many watersports: sailing, canoeing and diving are all very popular in Malinska.
The Hotel Riu Blue Waves offers the usual excellent RIU service and comfort and is ideally situated on one of Malinska's most beautiful seafront spots.
We also recommend that you visit the beach in Baska, one of the most spectacular in the Island of Krk. Although very crowded in the summer months, this marvellous 2km stretch of transparent waters surrounded by towering mountains and pine forests, is well worth a visit.
Diving
The Island of Krk has many great diving spots, with transparent and clean waters. The wreck of the Peltasis, the point of Silo, the Vbink cave or the Tenki reef, are some of the most recommended.
Watersports
Rent a kayak or a canoe and discover the pleasures of the lovely, unspoilt little coves near Malinska, often unreachable by land. There is no better, or most fun way, to discover the coast around Malinska.
Sailing, waterskiing and jet skiing are other popular activities off Malinska's coast.
Discover Island of Krk's natural beauty: trekking or cycling
Island of Krk has a beautiful countryside, with forests of pine trees, laurels and aromatic plants. There are plenty of routes that will guide you through sublime landscapes and take you to island's loveliest corners.
We recommend you take the trails near Baska, with great views over the sea and pretty villages; the ones around Punat, with forests where deer, foxes and many bird species roam; or go up to Obzora, the island's highest peak (569m), affording unparalleled panoramic views.
Specialities
If you like fish you will enjoy your stay in the Island of Krk: shrimps, clams, squid or anchovies are popular in local restaurants.
Aside from fish, there are also succulent especialities from the countryside, like Prsut (smoked ham), sheep cheese or surlice (a lamb-based speciality).
Desserts, made with figs, almonds or fresh cheese are very popular. As an aperitif, don't leave without trying the Vrbnicka Zlahtina, a delicious white wine or the various brandies made in the island: dropovica (made with grapes), travarica (con aromatic country herbs) o orahovica (walnuts).

Malinska
Situated in a pretty bay surrounded by pine forests, Malinska has the typical picturesque look of a Croatian Adriatic town, with stone facades and orange rooftops. Malinska's several beaches have calm, clean waters that look more like those of a lake.
Around the port, dotted with fishing and recreational boats, countless narrow streets that you'll enjoy discovering. Malinska's fishermen's charm is reflected in its cute little houses and in the Konobas, local taverns that serve succulent traditional food. Take a stroll down the waterfront promenade, especially at before dark, to enjoy the legendary Adriatic sunsets.
Krk
10 minutes from Malinska is Krk, a pleasant town surrounded by beautiful venetian-style walls. Many of its lovely cobbled streets will take you to the enchanting Vela Placa, or main square, or to the Cathedral, a beautiful 12th century construction.
Another worth-seeing building is the castle, with a privileged sea front situation, which often holds concerts, plays and expositions.
Vrbink
Standing at the top of a hill with great views, Vrbink is one of the most beautiful villages in the Island of Krk. Its magical little streets, often crowned with arches, are a pleasure to discover, lined with small, charming houses.
Vrbink was once the centre of the ancient Glagolitic language, widely used in the region in the past. Nowadays, this village is a good place to relax and admire the surrounding landscapes whilst sipping away at a Zlahtina, a delicious local white wine. Vrbink is only 30 minutes away from Malinska.
Island of Kosljun
This tiny island sits just 10 minutes off the coast of Punat, and is famous for its 16th century Franciscan monastery. Surrounded by pine trees, the monastery has an ethnological museum and several interesting religious art paintings.
Plivitze Natural Park
Just over 2 hours away from Malinska, the Plivitze Waterfalls National Park is one of Croatia's natural gems. Several walking paths take visitors through beautiful waterfalls and 16 lakes, surrounded by luxuriant forests.
The water, which flows through mountains and canyons, is pure and transparent and has characteristic colours that go from turquoise to emerald.
A 3-hour walk will take you through the Park's most beautiful places. There are also boat rides carry visitors to the heart of the waterfalls and to corners impossible to reach by foot.
