General wedding policies

The couple and 80% of their guests must stay at the same Riu Hotel where the wedding will be performed. Only 20% of the total group can stay at another hotel chain.

The bride and groom must arrive at the resort 2 full business before the ceremony date, in order to allow enough time for the final on-site arrangements. Please note that arrival date and Sundays are not considered business days.

Weddings are not performed on Sundays, January 1st , December 24th , December 25th  & December 31st

Confirmed weddings cancelled within a month of the ceremony date or upon arrival to the
hotel will be charged a cancellation fee of $250 USD.

Maximum capacity of the Riu Guanacaste: 100 people.

External vendors are allowed if they are staying at the Hotel where the wedding will be performed or if they pay a Vendor´s Fee of 200 usd per person.

Documentation

FOR CIVIL CEREMONIES ONLY

1. Current passports for Groom, Bride and Witnesses (obligatory)
Copies must be sent at least 15 days prior the ceremony date by fax or by email.

2. Two witnesses at the ceremony.
Anyone can serve you as witnesses even your close family or the Hotel employees (In case you do not have witnesses we will provide them without any additional costs)

The documents you bring here do not need to be translated into Spanish.
You do not need to apply for a marriage license from your Country or from Costa Rica.

RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES AND RENEWAL OF VOWS: 

No paper work is required.

Marriage certificate

• For Civil weddings:

  After the ceremony the couple will receive a marriage statement officially translated into English. Therefore you would be able to submit this document to your Marriages Record Office and get your marriage filed in your Country once you get back home, without waiting for the registration process in Costa Rica to be concluded.

  The registration process of a Civil Marriage in Costa Rica takes approximately three months after your wedding day. Then, we will mail you the definitive official marriage certificate issued by the Costa Rican Civil Registry Office and officially translated.

  The marriage certificate will be given to the couple three to four weeks after the wedding day.

• For Religous and Renewal of vows: The couple will receive a Marriage certificate without legal bearing on the wedding day.
