Negril in 3 days
Negril is in the far west of Jamaica and is one of the country’s most important tourism centers. Those looking for rest and relaxation can find it here on the beaches, some of the best on the island. The gorgeous natural surroundings are ideal for activities, whether in the sea or on dry land. And when night falls, Negril and its beaches fill up with a party atmosphere that could not be more Jamaican.
When you arrive in Negril and get settled at the Hotel Riu Palace Tropical Bay or ClubHotel Riu Negril, you will see that you are right on the beach at Bloody Bay. This is a peaceful spot where you can rest after your journey. Start your vacation by feeling the soft sand on your feet and the warm water on your body. After lunch from the varied buffet of your hotel, we recommend a visit to the area around the famous Negril lighthouse, from where there are fantastic views of the coast. When evening comes, take a seat to watch young people make daring jumps into the sea while you have a refreshing Caribbean cocktail and listen to some laid back reggae music.
Near Negril there are some great places for a bathe, and not all of them are on the beach! We propose a visit to the Mayfield Falls, by car. Once close by, you get to them by walking through the woods along paths surrounded by thick Jamaican vegetation. Another option for a dip is to go to the Blue Hole Mineral Spring or take a boat trip to Bobby Cay Island, where you can also enjoy a meal of delicious fresh lobster, cooked right in front of you.
After trying the excellent range of cuisine that the RIU hotels in Negril serve, we suggest spending the afternoon doing some shopping at the Negril Craft Market, just off Norman Manley Boulevard. Remember that here haggling is a must, and this will help you obtain some lovely souvenirs of your stay. If you want to experience some nightlife, stay here and visit some of the popular bars and nightclubs to dance to some reggae music or, if you prefer, go down to the beach and party by the beach bars.
On your third day in Negril we recommend visiting a banana, sugar and spice plantation. You could try Brimmer Hall or Prospect Plantation, both of which are open to visitors and are fine examples of large colonial plantations. On the way, take the opportunity to see Fern Gully, a road that runs along a dry river bed through a valley of ferns. This makes for a wonderful trip. If you prefer, another interesting excursion is a visit to the Royal Palm Reserve just ten minutes from Negril where you can get close to nature, surrounding yourself by leafy vegetation.
On your return, we suggest a pleasant evening at one of the restaurants at your RIU hotel in Negril and then enjoying the evening entertainment program.
