Revel In The Wondrous Setting Of RIU’s Formentera Hotel

Delight In The Coastal Treasures Of Our Formentera Spain Hotel

Spend an unforgettable beach holiday at our oceanfront Formentera hotel, where every view of the dazzling Playa de Migjorn is unparalleled.

Marvel at the ocean views extending from our Riu Formentera hotel. The beaches of this little Balearic gem are reminiscent of those in the Caribbean. Yet the island has much more. Formentera’s appeal also lies in its lighthouses, situated in some of the Mediterranean’s most magnificent landscapes. This peaceful island will make you long for a never-ending holiday. In the 60s and 70s many hippies felt the same and settled on the island. Those times are past but still today when you visit Formentera you cannot but feel that you are in a “last paradise”; no wonder visitors continue to fall in love with the island.

Day 1

You have probably chosen the Hotel Riu La Mola so that you can spend some time on the beaches of Formentera. However, we suggest that you take a day to visit some of the most attractive places in this fascinating corner of the Mediterranean.

On Formentera, it is quite common to hire a bike to get around the island. However if you are considering touring it in a single day perhaps hiring a moped is a better choice because, even though it looks quite flat, the island has a number of demanding hills.

First, we recommend a trip to the La Mola lighthouse, located at the top of a cliff that rises 200 meters above that sea. The beauty of the scenery here is overwhelming, almost magical. Apart from the breathtaking views and the lighthouse, you will find a plaque in memory of Jules Verne, who mentioned this spot in his novel Off on a Comet. Don’t miss the village of El Pilar de la Mola and its windmill, which you can visit free of charge to find out how it works. If your visit is in the summer, this is the time to have a look at the popular La Mola craft market.

In the afternoon, you can go to the other end of the island to see the Estany des Peix and Estany Pudent salt pans. If the tide is out, you can walk across to the small island of Espalmador, famous for its curious mud baths, which are ideal for some skin care. You will want to give yourself a good clean before heading south to visit the Cap de Barbaria lighthouse, a place with some truly stunning sunsets. If you arrive early and you are feeling fit, go to the nearby Cova Foradada, a grotto that leads to a spectacular viewpoint over the sea. If you are an early riser, or you like to stay up very late, you should know that this is a great spot to see the sunrise.

Other recommended options include a visit to the island’s capital, Sant Francesc, where you can wander around its streets of traditional white houses and in the beautiful church square; walk one of Formentera’s 19 green ways; or go diving or snorkelling in the fields of Posidonia Oceanica, found off the sandy beaches of the Ses Illetas and declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
