The Sea of Cortez is well known for the abundance and variety of fish and marine
life in the surrounding seas, it is some of the best sportfishing in the world.
The primary fish types encountered here are Dorado Striped Marlin, mackerel, Yellowfin
Tuna, Wahoo, Rooster and Pargo, Amberjack, Sailfish, Black or Blue Marlin, Sailfish
Swordfish and Grouper.
Shark fishing is also an important activity in the Baja Peninsula, it supplies much
of the seafood eaten locally. Hammerhead is the most common species of shark in the
area, although there are more than 60 species in the waters of Baja.
