Malaga - Torremolinos

Its name is a synonym of fun and good food. This beautiful stretch of sand, over 2 kilometres long, offers an infinity of possibilities. Its calm waters make it perfect for swimming, or for initiation into a water sport like windsurfing or sailing. If you prefer simpler activities, hire a pedalo and take to the sea.The fishermen's district after which the beach is named is legendary for its restaurants that serve "pescaito frito". Don't hesitate to go, as there is a good atmosphere and exquisite food galore.
The Hotel Riu Nautilus, set on the seafront, is an ideal place in which to enjoy an unforgettable holiday.
Playamar beach
Like all the beaches in the area, this one offers a wide variety of services. You will be able to take long walks to any of the other beaches in Torremolinos (the town has over 9 km of coast) on its fine, warm sands.
The seafront promenade that borders the beach attracts many walkers and tourists, and gives a great deal of atmosphere to the place: shops, restaurants and bars enable one to enjoy a long day of rest with no need to move from here.
Set between the seafront promenade and the beach is the Hotel Riu Belplaya. In it you can play a game of bowls, that enjoyable British sport similar to the French petanque.

Walking
Montes de Torremolinos: In this low mountain range you can go on beautiful, easy walks. The Puerto del Canuto and Ermita de San Miguel routes offer beautiful scenery and views of Torremolinos and the interior. Walking amidst forests of pines, cork-oaks, holm-oaks and carob trees is a good way of escaping from the mundane noise and enjoying a delightful day in the heart of nature just a step away from the hustle and bustle of the town.
Golf
Torremolinos forms part of the so-called "Costa de Golf", so enthusiasts of this sport will have no problem finding good courses:
Real Club de Campo de Málaga: The pioneers of this sport hit their first balls in this region. With a history going back over 70 years and 27 fantastic holes spread out beside the sea, the senior course in Malaga's golfing history will not disappoint you.
Lauro Golf: The olive trees, pines and holm-oaks that surround its 27 holes, and the views of the Guadalhorce valley and the Mediterranean, make this course more than a simple sporting experience. It is a little natural museum.
Torrequebrada: Located between the sea and the mountains, this course has lush subtropical vegetation and numerous birds. With its strategically-placed bunkers and lakes, each of its 18 holes is an adventure.
Family fun
Crocodile Park: This place is spectacular and educational at the same time. The different lagoons in the park house over 300 crocodiles of different species. You will find anything ranging from tiny specimens to the giants from the Nile, which can reach up to 5 metres in length and a weight of 500kg. Children will be fascinated to see these prehistoric monsters from up close. And if you like, you can even have your photo taken with one of the specimens in your arms, a unique experience on the Costa del Sol.
Aquapark: Torremolinos has Spain's top aqua-park. Situated to the north of the town, this huge recreational space has fun slides, including the Kamikaze (24m high) and the Twister, as well as several waterfalls and rapids one can slide down and a wave pool. You can also put your skill at mini golf to the test, and rest in the shade of the numerous trees and sunshades.
Smaller children can run around and have fun in safety in the Minipark, with the pirate ship, the aquatic toadstool and the castle, under the constant vigilance of the lifeguards.
Going out
The nightlife of Torremolinos disappoints no-one who knows it. After dinner, many of the kiosks on the seafront promenade turn into lively bars where the "fiesta" lasts until the following morning. In Calle San Miguel, in the heart of the centre, there are also a fair number of places in which to have a good time after a day on the beach.
The summer months are also the setting for different, extremely lively traditional festivals, such as the Feria de San Miguel and the Day of the Tourist, both of which fall in September.
If you are in the town in June, donÕt miss the Día del Pescadito (Day of Fried Fish!) and the Feria de San Juan, with the traditional bonfires on the beach lighting everything up and assuring you of a night of fun.
Shoppping
As a top tourist destination, Torremolinos can boast intense shopping activity. The central street of Calle San Miguel or "Calle Europa", the busiest in Europe according to locals, has all kinds of international fashion shops. On the seafront promenade, naturally, the range of shops is more varied. Here you will find decoration, souvenir and accessory shops alternating with the typical restaurants.
If you want to buy craft products, the Recinto Ferial exhibition site houses an interesting street market on Wednesdays and Sundays.
You will also find a little of everything in the large El Pinillo shopping centre: fashion, souvenirs, restaurants. This is a good "all in one" option just a few minutes from the town centre.
Eating in La Carihuela
La Carihuela: The former fishermen's district of the town has maintained its relationship with the sea until the present. Apart from the characteristic "pescaito frito" (fried fish), the restaurants and kiosks that line the beach front serve skewers of sardines, coquinas, clams, seafood salads and soups, paellas and naturally the traditional Andalusian gazpacho. The atmosphere and hustle and bustle combine with the good food to make La Carihuela a meeting point for locals and tourists alike. And all with beautiful views of the Mediterranean.

Torremolinos
As well as "pescaito frito", strolls along the beach and sports activities, Torremolinos also has other attractions that will surprise you:
The old town: The districts of La Carihuela, El Calvario and El Bajoncillo are the most typical of the town and still maintain the characteristic atmosphere of what once was a fishing village.
La Torre Pimentel: Adopted as the symbol of the town by its council, this watchtower of Arab origin is located at the end of the famous shopping street of San Miguel.
El Molino de Inca: The only survivor of the many windmills that formerly existed here lies beside an interesting botanical garden with fantastic subtropical plants.
Casa de los Navaja: The beautiful façade of this small palace in Andalusi style will draw your attention. Its fantastic location on the seafront promenade merely adds to the attraction of this singular building constructed in 1925.

Málaga
Although many may believe otherwise, this city is not merely about sun and beaches. Its streets and avenues are a pleasure to discover. And its many parks, bars and terraces are perfect to rest your feet after a long day of visiting. Thanks to the improved promotion of its heritage over recent years, Malaga has also become a top cultural destination.
Cathedral: Without a doubt this is the city's most singular monument. Because of the protracted length of its construction time, the building reveals a harmonious combination of the Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical styles. It is affectionately known as "la manquita" ("one-armed"), because it has only one tower. The other one was never completed due to lack of funds.
Picasso Museum: The most famous native of Malaga, at least on an artistic level, received the greatest tribute possible with the inauguration of this museum in 2003. Containing over 150 works from all the periods, the MPM (Museo Picasso de Malaga) is another illustrative example of the cultural boost the city has received over the last few years.
Alcazaba: This important small fortress with magnificent views of the city is one of the few vestiges that remain from the Muslim era. Its fountains and lush gardens are a faithful reflection of the Arab legacy.
A visit to the Alcazaba would be incomplete without seeing the castle, a 14th-century construction, with which it shares the hill of Gibralfaro.
The Roman theatre, located near the entrance and constructed in the 2nd century AD, demonstrates the importance of the region as a place of convergence of numerous civilisations.
