We\u2019ve just opened Riu Plaza Toronto<\/u><\/a>, RIU\u2019s first hotel in <\/strong>Canada<\/strong><\/u><\/strong><\/a>! It\u2019s such great news, with so many anecdotes and records. Without a doubt, it\u2019s the hotel that\u2019s taken us the longest to open<\/strong>. It\u2019s been six years since we announced it. And four years since the first planned opening date until the actual opening. But equally, it\u2019s the hotel that\u2019s broken the record for booking speed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within 48 hours of starting the sale, we practically sold out of rooms<\/strong>. This is something that can only be explained by one of this project\u2019s best features: RIU is a well-recognised and appreciated brand in Canada thanks to holidays enjoyed by thousands of citizens at our hotels in Mexico<\/u><\/a>, Jamaica<\/u><\/a>, Panam\u00e1<\/u><\/a>, Aruba<\/u><\/a>\u2026 And that\u2019s just one of the main reasons why we chose Toronto for the expansion of our Riu Plaza brand<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, that and because Toronto is such a charming city<\/u><\/a>. It\u2019s got a very special atmosphere. It\u2019s clean, modern, with a vibrant cultural life, trendy bars and restaurants<\/strong>. And what I love most is that despite being a large city, its citizens seem to enjoy a leisurely life<\/strong>. We don\u2019t see the speed and frenzied activity of other cities. It\u2019s got a different atmosphere. The shops aren\u2019t at street level but in shopping centres, making sure customers can keep making purchases during winter\u2019s toughest months. It\u2019s a key international destination with so much potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But let\u2019s go back to 2018 when this great opportunity arose<\/u><\/a>. In this case, the entire property project consists of two skyscrapers. They offered us the first 23 floors in one of the buildings, which has a total of 49<\/strong>. We don\u2019t usually like to share buildings with other users, for various reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
