It consists of a large blue buoy contained in a wooden platform and it is a symbolic landmark for the local Arubans, who saw how the iconic feature was repaired and restored in just a few weeks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jkqLTUIfpcE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The passage of time, not to mention the passing of a hurricane some years ago, had worn away and even destroyed the wooden cladding of buoy, from which the island&#8217;s children traditionally launched themselves into the water. The deterioration had also dented the giant blue buoy at the centre of the platform, which began losing its colour due to the same reasons.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_6421.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6062\" src=\"https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_6421-700x394.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_6421-700x394.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_6421-250x141.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_6421-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_6421-120x68.jpg 120w, https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_6421.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The initiative was suggested by Juan Blanco, the manager of the Riu Palace Antillas, who closely monitored the progress of the renovation of the buoy and the construction of the new wooden platform, something that was supported by the Aruban Government right from the start. Their representative was the Minister of Tourism and Public Health, Dangui Oduber, who was involved from the time the very first decisions were taken.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/bayoa-nueva-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6065\" src=\"https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/bayoa-nueva-3-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/bayoa-nueva-3-700x525.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/bayoa-nueva-3-250x188.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/bayoa-nueva-3-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/bayoa-nueva-3-120x90.jpg 120w, https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/bayoa-nueva-3.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the new wooden base was constructed and the difficulties in positioning the country&#8217;s flag on top of the buoy were overcome, the next step was to paint the restored central tower in the colours of the Aruban national flag.
