Reef restoration and coral planting on the Playa Blanca coral reef to increase coverage across dive sites and coral communities within the Gulf of Papagayo, alongside the protection of Pacific green turtles (black turtles) and other species arriving on these shores.

RIU has dedicated the majority of its property in Matapalo (200 hectares) to creating a Private Refuge aimed at protecting, conserving, and restoring the forest, as well as managing its environmental wealth.
