Legal/Civil Weddings

Birth certificates of the couple (notarized copies and translated into Spanish).
Passports of the couple and 4 witnesses (regular copies). The parents of the bride and groom cannot be accepted as witnesses.
Divorce decree, if applicable (notarized copy and translated into Spanish).
Death certificate of previous partner, if applicable (notarized copy and translated into Spanish).
Blood test, not included in the RIU Wedding Collections; has an additional cost (it must be done at the resort).
Written parental consent for people under 18 years of age (notarized copy and translated into Spanish).

All documents must be emailed scanned at least one month prior to the wedding date.

Translations must be done by an official company located in the state of Nayarit, Mexico. This governmental requirement has an extra charge (approximately $45.00 USD* per translated page).

Please note that all documents must present the exact same names or you must have a legal document stating that the names have been changed.

*IMPORTANT: If the bride or groom does not have the citizenship of the country of residence, they must notify this information in advance to the Wedding Specialist Coordinator; these types of marriages must follow different legal requirements.

*IMPORTANT: Due to each country having specific requirements, we recommend you contact your local embassy or respective consulate prior to your trip, to obtain complete and detailed information on the procedure to follow to legalize your marriage certificate in your country of residence once you return; because in most cases, an Apostille stamp is required if you want your legal marriage certificate to be apostilled. Please note that additional charges may apply and this must be requested at the end of your ceremony directly with the Judge; therefore, you will cover the additional costs and handle this process directly with the Judge.

The Apostille is a certified seal that authenticates the signature of the public official who signs the document. An Apostille certificate confirms that the person signing a document has the authority to do so and therefore that document should be recognized as legal without further evidence in another Member State of The Hague Convention. The Apostille must be required in the State where the document was issued. The Foreign Affairs offices of each state and country can provide the Apostille.

*This process takes from 1 to 2 months; as soon as the Government delivers the document, the Wedding Specialist Coordinator will contact you and deliver it to you (the cost for the Apostille is $200.00 USD*).

The following are standardized policies that must be followed, without exception, in order to host a wedding at RIU Hotels & Resorts. Please note that failure to comply with any of these policies could result in cancellation of the wedding. Therefore, we highly appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

The couple and 80% of their guests must stay at the same resort where the wedding will take place.
Wedding guests must commit to stay at least on the wedding date in the hotel where the wedding will take place.
The couple must remain at the resort for the required days according to the type of ceremony. (For more information please consult with the Wedding Specialist Coordinator).
The 20% of the group of guests who do not comply with this policy must pay for a Day Pass to attend the wedding.
Riu Palace Pacifico guests attending a wedding at Riu Vallarta or Riu Flamingos will not need to pay for a Wedding Day Pass, as they are staying in the highest category of RIU Hotels.
Riu Vallarta and Riu Flamingos guests are restricted to pay for a Wedding Day Pass in order to attend a ceremony at another Riu Palace Hotel. The cost of the Wedding Day Pass is approximately $85.00 USD* (subject to change).
The couple or main contact responsible for the wedding planning must provide the RIU Wedding Specialist Coordinator with a guest list with room bookings. This way will be verified that 80% has been completed.
Guests staying outside RIU Hotels & Resorts must also pay for a Day Pass. Day Pass fee is approximately $100.00 USD* subject to change.
Outside Vendors are allowed to work at RIU Resorts under these terms and conditions: Providing complete information about the outside vendor to the Wedding Specialist Coordinator, as well as the time contracted for their services; arrival/departure time; visa or permit to work in Mexico (for foreigners); RFC or Cédula Fiscal for Mexicans; full names of the assistants who will be working at the facilities. The vendor's fee is $300 USD* for 2023 -2024, price per person.

Catering vendors are not allowed.
Couples are not allowed to bring local judges to officiate at services.
Couples are allowed to bring their own minister if he or she are part of the wedding group. They must notify this at least one month prior to the date of the ceremony in order to to avoid any penalization.
Couples who have a confirmed wedding date and need to modify the type of ceremony must notify this change at least one month prior to the wedding date.
The Wedding Reservations Department does not guarantee the same availability on dates and time slots if the ceremony has to be switched with or without prior notice. Please note that depending on the type of ceremony the date must be reserved with a different officiant.
Confirmed weddings that are canceled within one month of the ceremony date or upon arrival at the hotel will be charged a cancellation fee of $250.00 USD* (subject to change without prior notice) plus ministers or judges fees.
Reception: Starting from 41 guests incur in a private event and additional charges apply.

We do not host weddings or any type of event on Sundays as this is a strict hotel policy, no exceptions.

*For couples traveling from Canada, please take into consideration that flights to the Pacific area of Mexico normally arrive only on Saturdays; therefore, if you wish to have your wedding on a Monday, the arrival day for a civil/legal ceremony must be the previous Tuesday, three full business days (3); or previous Thursday, two (2) full business days, to perform a symbolic wedding on Monday.
