Our stay at the Hotel Riu Palace Riviera Maya was a very pleasant experience, especially due to the combination of Mexican-inspired architecture, a privileged natural setting, and the excellent treatment from the staff.
Architecture and setting
One of the first aspects that draws attention is the hotel's architecture, inspired by the style of Mexican haciendas, with an interesting combination of classic elements and modernist details. The result is a sophisticated, warm, and pleasant environment that maintains its own identity and integrates very well with the landscape.
The natural environment surrounding the hotel is truly wonderful. One can observe a significant presence of native flora and fauna, something that adds special value to the experience. During our stay, we also had the possibility of witnessing the hatching of sea turtles, a truly exciting and unforgettable moment. Without a doubt, it was one of the most special moments of the trip.
Arrival and common areas
The hotel features a spacious and elegant lobby, where the check-in process was quick and efficient. If you are a RIU Class member, the experience is even more streamlined.
We also used the airport–hotel transfer service offered by the RIU chain and our experience was excellent: it worked in an organized manner and without any issues.
In the lobby, there is a bar and a coffee shop, which are very pleasant spaces to rest. During some afternoons, live music is also offered, which creates a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
Gastronomy
The gastronomic proposal is extensive and includes both a buffet restaurant and different themed restaurants.
In general terms, we found good options and satisfactory quality. Among the themed restaurants, the Italian restaurant was, in our experience, the one that stood out the most.
The main buffet restaurant offers breakfast and dinner, while lunch is served at another buffet located in front of the beach. The gastronomic variety is good; however, comparing it with our experience at other hotels in the Riu Palace category, we consider that there is some room for improvement here, especially regarding the diversity of offerings and, in some cases, the quality of certain dishes.
The bars offer a wide variety of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and the staff's good service stands out once again.
A small detail that we especially enjoyed was the coffee shop: returning from the beach and taking a break to have a coffee or a small snack before dinner became almost a ritual during our stay.
Rooms
The rooms are comfortable, spacious, and have very pleasant views. The amenities provided seemed to us to be of a higher quality than those usually found in other establishments of the RIU chain.
We also positively highlight the air conditioning and soundproofing, two important aspects for ensuring a good rest, and they work very well at this hotel.
Gym
The gym is properly equipped for a basic workout and allows you to maintain a routine during your vacation.
As an aspect to improve, we consider that it would be interesting to expand both the space and eventually the amount of equipment, since at certain times it can be a bit small when a larger number of guests coincide.
Entertainment
Entertainment is another of the hotel's strong points. The entertainment team maintains a very active schedule, with activities in both the pool area and on the beach.
During the evenings, different shows are also presented in the theater area, with interesting options that allow you to end the day enjoying a good time without needing to leave the complex.
Beach
The beach is wide and has a large number of lounge chairs, so we always found availability during our stay.
The main drawback was the presence of sargassum, which at certain times made it difficult to enter the sea. Although the hotel performs cleaning tasks, the amount that reaches the coast can exceed the establishment's maintenance capacity.
In this regard, we consider it important to clarify that this is an environmental situation that is beyond the hotel's control and affects a large part of the Riviera Maya coast.
Staff service
The service is, without a doubt, one of the establishment's strengths. During our stay, we found the staff to be friendly, willing to help, and attentive, both in the restaurants and bars and in the different areas of the complex.
The team's cordiality contributes significantly to making the overall experience pleasant.
Playacar and location
The Playacar environment is another of the great attractions. It is an especially pleasant area, surrounded by vegetation and with a well-maintained atmosphere that complements the hotel's offering very well.
Conclusion
Overall, our experience at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya was very positive. It is an establishment that combines architecture with a Mexican identity, an exceptional natural environment, good facilities, a wide range of entertainment, and, especially, staff who stand out for their kindness and willingness to help.
There are some aspects that could be optimized, mainly in the diversity and quality of the gastronomic offering compared to other Riu Palace hotels we have visited and in the size of the gym. However, these are specific issues within a very satisfactory overall experience.
The contact with nature, the Playacar environment, the quality of the facilities, and the staff's attention make the hotel a very interesting alternative for those looking for an all-inclusive experience with comfort, entertainment, and a privileged natural environment in the Riviera Maya.
And, in our case, being able to witness the hatching of sea turtles during our stay was, simply put, an unforgettable memory.
