My Very Disappointing Experience at Riu Ahungalla A few days ago, I booked three rooms at Riu Ahungalla on a full-board package. Honestly, I have to say that I was extremely disappointed with my experience. I left feeling very frustrated and dissatisfied. I have stayed at many hotels in Sri Lanka and in several other countries around the world. However, my stay at Riu Ahungalla was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had. Just a few days before visiting Riu Ahungalla, I stayed at Citrus Waskaduwa Hotel, paying less than half of what I paid at Riu. Surprisingly, the overall standard and quality of service at Citrus Waskaduwa were far better. I was staying in a room on the fifth floor. On a rainy day, the air conditioning temperature could not be adjusted below 22°C. Eventually, I had to switch it off, but shortly afterwards, water started leaking onto the floor. This was an extremely unpleasant experience. One of my brother also slipped and fell because of the conditions. We had booked the room for three people, but the room arrangements were clearly not suitable for three guests. Only two towels were provided. There were no bathroom slippers and no toothbrushes. Although we were told that everything was included in our full-board package, the minibar only contained three bottles of soft drinks: Coca-Cola, Sprite and Fanta. When it came to the food, the standard was far below what I would expect from a hotel of this level. Food Quality and Restaurant Experience When we went for afternoon tea after checking in, all the snacks tasted old and stale. Nothing seemed fresh. It honestly felt as though we were eating leftover food from the previous day. Dinner was no better. There was very little variety, and the taste and quality of the food were extremely disappointing. It made me question the experience and skills of the chefs preparing the meals. The following morning, breakfast was equally disappointing. I noticed that many Sri Lankan guests were staying at the hotel, but I genuinely doubt that many of them were satisfied with the food and overall experience. We later went for lunch, and it was probably the worst hotel lunch buffet I have ever seen. There was hardly any variety, and the main options were meat and chicken. I am not normally a fan of chicken, but unfortunately, I had no other proper choices. My Honest Opinion I currently live in the UK, and many people have been asking me about my experience at Riu Ahungalla. I have been completely honest with everyone. My advice is simple: think carefully before spending your hard-earned money here. There are many other hotels in Sri Lanka offering a much better experience, better food, better facilities and better service, even at significantly lower prices. I am writing this review because I do not want other people to waste their money and experience the same disappointment that I did. When guests pay a premium price, they deserve a standard of accommodation and service that matches what they have paid for. I sincerely hope someone from the hotel management team reads this review and takes the time to respond. I would genuinely like to know why such a disappointing experience happened at a hotel like Riu Ahungalla. Riu Ahungalla – Unfortunately, one of the worst hotel experiences of my life. I expected so much more, but the reality was completely different.
