Hotel Riu Ocho Rios 5*

This was a holiday supporting a family member. I enjoyed my time. Music played outside did impact our room but that was just down to our room location. Amazing cleanliness, staff could not do enough and working so hard all the time.

The hotel is beautiful, and having been coming to RIU since it first opened, it holds a special place in my heart, and feels like coming home. Unfortunately, our room was quite a distance from the main amenities, and we were initially put on the second floor with no lift. This was really difficult with our suitcases and especially for my mum, who has arthritis. Thankfully, we were able to move to the first floor, which made things much easier. The one thing that really needs improving is the food. I've been coming here for years, and not much seems to have changed. We stayed for five nights, and honestly, for about half of that time, I just couldn't face the food because it was so repetitive. A bit more variety would make such a difference, On a positive note, the staff were lovely, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel shop is very expensive, so it's worth shopping around. I managed to buy my rum at the airport for just US$20. Despite these few disappointments, I would definitely return. RIU feels like home to me, and you can't beat that beautiful beach and watching the sun go down over the sea. With a little more variety in the food and some consideration for guests who struggle with stairs, the experience would be even better.
