Hotel Riu Palace Tikida Taghazout

Brilliant, Brilliant place, from day one to the end of our 14 days it was wonderful Bill & Brenda Gibbs

The hotel was beautiful and felt luxurious in regards to the room, the bar area and the overall aesthetic. Everything was stunning and everywhere you looked, you could take a photo. The hotel in general was well kept and clean, but there were a couple of areas such as the pool cushions etc that needed a little more attention (nothing major though!). Food was generally nice at the buffets, but a little repetitive. My other half is pescatarian and mostly found enough options, but some days it was a little boring. We found the lunch buffet better than the evening, but thought the waiters could have paid a little more attention and looked after us better. Often times we didn’t get drinks offered to us and either had to go and ask or go without. We didn’t really rate the alacarte restaurants, they didn’t serve anything really different to the main restaurants and the service wasn’t that great. My favourite was the Moroccan, but we only booked each of them once (we could have booked twice during our two week stay). We did go and eat outside of the hotel in Taghazout which was amazing to get local cuisine and for a good price! The pools were nice, there is one heated pool in the middle but it did get a bit busier than the others. They were beautifully kept and there are two adult only pools. We tried the main adults only infinity pool for the first few days which was nice and also closer to the bar, but for our second week, we moved to the adults only Infinity pool which was remote (BEST decision, especially as the hotel got busier with more children further into our stay). We were very well looked after by the guy at the pool (didn’t catch his name), and felt very private and peaceful as it was never full. Little further from the bar and restaurant but nice to get away from the main hustle and bustle. Our room was beautiful with a partial sea view. We overlooked the left side of the hotel where there were a few building works to the side but nothing imposing. We had a lovely view and it was very quiet. The room was huge and had everything we needed (very stylish too). Housekeeping were great (apart from one lady walking in on me in the shower after not knocking! This was at 4.45pm!). There were lots of cats around the hotel which added a nice bit of charm, but it would be nice to know how they are looked after as we did see a couple of injured cats and there were ALOT of kittens (adorable!) but could easily get out of control if they don’t keep neutering under control. We had our favourite cats and looked forward to seeing and fussing them all each day. They are certainly well loved by most of the guests. Entertainment was lacking, but there were enough seats and areas to sit around the reception and outdoor area if you wanted to play games. It was very chilled, but wouldn’t recommend staying if you wanted a really lively evening. There was entertainment every night but we only watched part of one of the shows and didn’t check out the rest. It also started quite late at 9.30pm which, if you’re anything like me on holiday, is bedtime! We did one trip to to Agadir to the souks. This was fun and we got a few bargains. We withdrew cash at the hotel beforehand and arranged a taxi which took us and picked us up at an agreed time where they dropped us off. No problems and cost about 400 MAD. Whilst nobody can control the weather, we stayed from 8th - 22nd October and had one day of cloud and rainy downpours, and a few days with mist/cloud which was mostly cleared by 12pm/1pm. It got to about 26/28 degrees on average and was chilly/breezy in the evening. But we did lots of sunbathing and enjoyed the weather for the most part. On the mornings where it was cloudy, we enjoyed a walk up the beach to taghazout (10-15 min walk). Lots of stray dogs, which were very friendly but just be careful not to touch. All in all, a very relaxing two weeks in a beautiful hotel. Wouldn’t say it is 5 star, but certainly very nice with some areas for improvement.
