What is RIU’s social impact in Mexican communities?

At RIU Hotels & Resorts, we believe that true luxury must extend to the preservation of the culture and natural beauty of destinations. Our social responsibility philosophy has evolved into a commitment integrated into the DNA of each department.

Currently, we work hand in hand with local partners to generate a tangible impact. A
fundamental pillar is our relationship with the Fundación Aitana in Quintana Roo, where
after a decade of collaboration, we have allocated almost 23 million pesos to support
children and young people in cancer treatments.

In which regions of Mexico does the RIU collaboration network operate?

Our support network is strategically distributed to address the specific needs of each
ecosystem and community:

  • Quintana Roo: We collaborate with Oceanus on ocean conservation and with Save the Children México for child development.
  • Mazatlán: We promote education through partnerships with Proeduca Sinaloa and Back to Back Mexico.
  • Nayarit: We protect marine biodiversity with ECOBAC and CEMBAB, as well as supporting children with cancer through CANICA.
  • Guadalajara: We invest in social fabric with Corporativa de Fundaciones and in reforestation with Bosque Urbano Extra.
  • Los Cabos: We focus on youth with Los Niños del Capitán and Amigo de los Niños.

How does RIU protect children nationally?

Although we do not operate hotels in the capital, in Mexico City we collaborate with ECPAT Mexico. This alliance is vital for the fight against the commercial sexual exploitation of minors, aligning ourselves with the principles of THE CODE.

We train our staff to prevent risks and ensure that tourism is a safe environment. Likewise, we work with Dr. Sonrisas to provide emotional support to children in vulnerable situations, combating complex problems on a national scale.

“The tourism of the future is sustainable or it will not be. At RIU, we are convinced that
consistency and a long-term vision are the only ways to build a more resilient Mexico.”
