This year we’re celebrating in the capital of Germany, as our Riu Plaza Berlin hotel turns ten!
Since we opened our doors in September 2015, this hotel has become a favourite for thousands of business and leisure travellers. Most importantly, it marked a turning point for the chain: it was our first RIU Plaza hotel to open in Europe. Ten years of success that we’re celebrating in style. And it all started right here in the centre of Berlin!
The historic milestone: RIU Plaza launches in Europe
It was not a coincidence that Berlin was chosen as the first European city for the RIU Plaza; it was a decision straight from the heart! For RIU, this opening took us a step closer to the German market—one where the awareness of RIU is immense, just like its affection and loyalty to the brand. So it was the perfect location for taking this major leap forward.
The Riu Plaza Berlin Hotel was launched with the mission of blending RIU’s renowned vacation hospitality with the demands of the urban and business segment. It quickly became a prime example of our expansion strategy, demonstrating that our quality model could succeed both on the beach and in the city.
Privileged location and functional design
The Hotel Riu Plaza Berlin is the ideal starting point for exploring one of Europe’s most fascinating and historic cities. It boasts a prime location, right on the famous Kurfürstendamm (Ku’Damm) avenue. This is one of the most popular areas in Berlin, where you can easily get to the city’s major landmarks, such as the impressive Brandenburg Gate, the remains of the Berlin Wall and the most important museums. And what about shopping? The historic KaDeWe department store is just 350 metres away. Definitely the perfect place to stay!
The building has a total of 17 floors that hold 357 rooms offering all the amenities you need for your stay in Berlin, all featuring elegant and contemporary design. Another highlight is its generous international breakfast buffet. In addition, if you wish, there is an à la carte restaurant and a snack area and lobby bar open 24 hours a day. What more could you ask for?
A business centre in the heart of Berlin
But that’s not all! Another key feature of the RIU Plaza line is its strong focus on MICE tourism. The hotel is a leader in this sector thanks to its comprehensive event facilities. It has 11 fully equipped conference rooms. Together, these spaces have a total capacity of up to 840 people, making the hotel the ideal venue for large events, conventions or professional meetings.
Venue for the most eagerly awaited event of the year: the ITB
For several years, the Riu Plaza Berlin was not only our first and flagship hotel in Germany, it also became the most eagerly awaited meeting place in the capital: the official venue of the legendary annual ITB (International Tourism Trade Fair) festival. Beginning in 2016, coinciding with our arrival in the city, our hotel was the place to be, a red-carpet event where more than 300 key professionals from the global tourism industry gathered. This celebration became one of the most famous and keenly anticipated on the ITB calendar.
This special evening was the perfect opportunity for RIU to showcase its excellence firsthand. It was the ideal setting to welcome national delegations from key destinations such as the Canaries and the Balearic Islands, together with the industry’s leading figures. In every corner of the hotel, our teams showed off their talent: from the masterful mixology of our bartenders, to the artistry of our chefs at our buffet stations, to the impeccable service. It was our moment to shine and express our gratitude for the trust placed in RIU.
A year full of special moments
Without a doubt, it has been a year full of special moments for the Hotel Riu Plaza Berlin. We would like to make a particular mention of the recognition we have received from DEHOGA (the German Hotel and Restaurant Association) to mark this anniversary. For us, this gesture confirms that we have successfully integrated ourselves into the city’s hotel scene. Being recognised by our industry colleagues is a real honour that motivates us to keep working every day with the quality and warmth that sets us apart.
Thank you for these ten years
This anniversary not only celebrates the history of a building, but also a dedicated team that, day after day, ensures that each stay is a unique and unforgettable experience. Without them, we would not have been able to blow out the candles every year.
