We were at Riu Republica for 11 nights and throughout our stay it was just stressful, but we tried to be positive.
Day one TV not working, over 4 days I reported to front desk twice, emailed to customer service and then emailed to complaint department. 11th night, still no TV and no response, because no one cared.
Jacuzzi jets not working! But still they were taking the booking!! We were told of issues when we went at appointment time and got undressed to go into Jacuzzi!!!
In room we ran out of water twice, once ran out of, shower gel and hand-wash gel, once ran out of coffee mate and sugar. I tried to order through phone to relevant department, but phone not working! Then tried to order through RIU app and message came as ERROR!!
Service in buffet restaurants is terrible. Waiters will serve you if you are Spanish, otherwise you will be completely ignored. They can tell by your wrist band. All guests were All Inclusive, but local guests from Jamaica and Porte Rico who come for just 2/3 nights stay have Yellow bands and other guests mostly from UK were wearing Purple bands. Why?? This is discrimination and it was practiced openly, also, it was quite noticeable as 90% of guests were wearing yellow bands.
One waiter in particular was absolutely ignorant, even though he could speak English quite well, he just ignored us and not serve us. Why? We haven't got any clue, and are still baffled. He works in Mangu restaurant in the morning and Kaori restaurant in evening. Normally we had breakfast outside in veranda to avoid him, but on last day we decided to have breakfast inside in A/C room. He just ignored us, but other waitress asked him to get 2 tea's for us, and tea never came, So we asked yet again to another waiter and tea came after 8 minutes. He was happy to serve all other guests around our table, just because they all were wearing Yellow wrist bands (Spanish ID)!
It really made me mad, so I asked for his name and he got confused!
But I managed to get it from his name tag. EQUDURE.
Number of times we had to ask supervisor to serve us and ask them to clear our table, sometimes had to get up middle of our meals to get knife, fork, napkins, coffee etc. As guests with Purple wrist bands were just ignored and this was quite acceptable practice in buffet restaurants, even by the supervisor.
We both are over 70, I have grey hair and we both limp a bit because of arthritis, but, still were ignored!!
It's not that we didn't tip good staff, we spent £28 on tips between room cleaner, chef, restaurant waiters, pool staff, bar staff.
Also, this hotel is adult only, more suitable for 18 to 35 , who are here for just 2/3 nights for clubbing. Not adult only what we experience in Europe.
I am a registered member of Riu hotels group and was expecting much better response and service from the management. So it seems members are just a number!!
Never ever using Riu brand again.
