Hotel Riu Vistamar 4*

I am staying Here for two weeks this has been day 5 and i genuinely feel invisible half the time, especially from the server at the bar she is called cassia other customers who arrived after us were served first. We tried to get the bartender’s attention politely, but were repeatedly overlooked. It made us feel unwelcome and was very disappointing. Alot of the time there was no area to sit at the snack area as every table was completely full and plates were still full on tables not being cleaned. Not been given cutlery at snack, half the plates were still dirty. Half the machines at the gym are falling to pieces and are so unsafe! Especially the cross trainer and bike. The gym is far too hot to even be able to do any workouts in it. For the amount of money I paid I honestly thought it would be better. I absolutely love riu hotels and have been to many but it seems this riu hotel has so many different rules from other rius, for example the life guards were very rude and shouted at us for having our drinks close to the pool whilst other riu hotels you are allowed to be right in the pool with drinks. But again noticed alot of other people doing this and the life guard had no problem with this only seemed to have a problem when we done it. Then I was shouted at for having a tiny float in the pool again I was allowed this in the last Riu hotel. The rooms are very clean cannot complain, the manager is also very nice the hotel is lovely it is very overcrowded though and wish there was a pool dedicated to adults because you cannot swim at all rarely. The food is great has everything you need and want basically. Alot of staff members are really lovely and accomodating it’s just ashame alot of things have made this stay not the best.

The hotel is very good in terms of value for money. The food, in general terms, is very varied and good, and the dining service is excellent (special recognition to the service from Malik and Aythami). The (double) rooms are correct in size and clean. We only had one problem because on the first floor, where we were staying, the terraces are a bit larger and stick out, and we would wake up every morning with the terrace full of ash from the smokers on the floors above; and that is even though the hotel prohibits smoking in the complex... Regarding the entertainment, it is good in terms of activities around the pool, both for children and adults, although perhaps it could be a bit more complete, with more options. Mind you, the same entertainers and physical activity instructors from the morning ended up giving it their all during the evening shows, with very well-crafted performances and a lot of talent. This last aspect surprised us a lot. Despite being a hotel with a large influx of guests, the atmosphere in the common areas is calm and family-friendly. The location is a bit remote within Gran Canaria, but going up to where it is is worth it for the excellent ocean views from almost every corner of the hotel. We found the big drawback of the hotel to be the access from the rooms to the common areas. The elevators are scarce for the volume of guests staying at the hotel (more than 1200 at the time we were there, according to what we were told), but if on top of that one of them breaks down without being fixed during the five days of our stay... That, in a hotel with five floors of rooms that also distributes its common areas on different levels, can become very irritating when you see elevators full of people going up and down without you being able to do anything. In short, it is a hotel with a good all-inclusive plan, especially suitable for families and with very positive service. Although it is not perfect, you will spend a few days of disconnection, with good food and service at a reasonable price.
