But first… a little history

Did you know that Carnival is a very important holiday for Cape Verdeans? Whenever we think about this time of year we imagine destinations like Brazil or the Canary Islands. But Cape Verde has a strong carnival tradition.  And it is one of the most outstanding events of the year. Although the biggest celebrations take place in the cities of Praia and Mindelo, the other islands also join in and over this period all corners of Cape Verde are filled with African rhythms, light and colour under which the crowds gather to watch the floats and great parades of dancers. One more reason to visit these dream islands! If you choose Cape Verde to celebrate this festivity you will experience Carnival in its purest form.

Carnival with RIU on Isla de Sal

Now let’s look at Isla de Sal where, in 2005, RIU opened its first hotel in the destination. Here the three establishments have surprised their guests with their now traditional Carnival parade.

On the 12th, the Riu Funana and Riu Cabo Verde hotels were filled with colour thanks to a costume parade offered by the hotel’s entertainment team who, accompanied by a batucada drum group, toured all the facilities, filling guests with joy. The Riu Palace Santa Maria did the same on the 14th with a batucada, juggling and costumes of all types and colours. the RiuLand too!

But that’s not all! After both shows, guests were able to enjoy a special cocktail. Without a doubt, a great party that no-one wanted to miss and where there was no shortage of Carnival spirit, dancing and music.

Carnival in Boa Vista

Of course our hotels in Boa Vista did not want to miss out on the party and joined in the celebrations. On Tuesday the 13th the three hotels: the Riu Touareg, the Riu Karamboa, and the Riu Palace Boavista held several activities, among which the great parade of original Brazilian-themed costumes stood out, as well as a fantastic batucada group that livened up the afternoon. Once darkness fell, the main feature was a show full of dancing and more costumes! A fantastic celebration that will remain forever in the hearts of everyone who went.

The guests and entertainment team have enjoyed these days together in which there has only been room for joy. If you liked it, don’t worry, we’ll do it again next year! Don’t wait any longer! You can already choose the costume you want to surprise us with! Are you ready to experience the Cape Verde Carnival?
