Proudly Committed in Jamaica: commitment to communities
This date also has a special meaning for RIU. Every year, teams from the seven hotels on the island are infected with this collaborative spirit and carry out activities that positively impact the community.
Actions like the ones organised on Labour Day reflect the essence of our sustainability strategy: Proudly Committed, a philosophy that guides our daily work and reaffirms our social responsibility.

RIU’s solidarity projects on Labour Day
Let’s go! Come with us on a tour of our destinations and find out what we did at each one. Our first stop is Falmouth, where the team from the Riu Palace Aquarelle supported the local community by helping to renovate an area of the Falmouth Public General Hospital and painting the local parish police station. Both projects got a lot of support from our hotel staff, who provided paint, tools, snacks, and lunch for everyone who helped out.

On the north coast of the island, staff from Riu Ocho Rios visited St. Ann’s Bay Hospital, where they refurbished one of the main bathrooms. In addition, the gardening team took care of beautifying the nearby green areas, while the cleaning and maintenance departments thoroughly sanitised the centres main corridors. As a result, the basic hygiene conditions in the hospital improved and the environment was made more pleasant for patients and staff.

In Montego Bay, the country’s tourist hub, the focus was on the city’s homeless centre, the Refugio de Esperanza para Personas sin Hogar. The staff of the Riu Montego Bay spruced up different areas of the centre and helped make it more comfortable and functional. The Riu Palace Jamaica and Riu Reggae also contributed by donating supplies to the shelter. In addition, the two hotels organised a shared meal for their teams to celebrate this important day. The perfect ending!
Finally, in Negril, teams from the Riu Palace Tropical Bay and Riu Negril spent the day at the Pell River Primary School on Green Island. There, they painted both the interior and exterior of the school and helped install some new infrastructure, helping to create a more cheerful and functional environment for the little ones.
What did you think of these initiatives? Have we infected you with Jamaica’s spirit of solidarity and joy? If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to enjoy the magic of Jamaica and would like to take part in a day like this, we encourage you to join us next year.
See you next Labour Day!
