This is the before and after at the elegant Riu Palace Macao!

After several months of renovation work, the spectacular makeover at the Riu Palace Macao is now a reality. Located in the RIU Resort in Punta Cana, the hotel continues to offer our renowned service All Inclusive 24 Hours, the ideal place for couples as it is for Adults Only. Following the renovation, the five-star hotel has kicked off the winter season in style, with new services and a completely updated style.

The Riu Palace Macao launches new services and spaces

This hotel was the first in the Riu Palace range in America in 1994 and this is the second time it has been refurbished, the last time was in 2012. The Elite Club by RIU is one of the most notable new features at the Hotel Riu Palace Macao: an exclusive service that has advantages and spaces designed for those guests who want to go one step further in their experience in RIU Hotels & Resorts .

But this is not all! Customers will be able to enjoy the largest Wellness centre in the hotel chain. This new space includes a gym with sports equipment, a hair salon, a spa with two water areas, steam baths and nine massage cabins. In short, everything you need for a full well-being, beauty and fitness experience.

We don’t want to give away any more spoilers, you must be wondering what changes we are going to surprise you with this time. Today we show you all the details of the before and after of the renovations in the hotel. Can you join us?

The Riu Palace Macao has the largest Spa and Wellness area of the entire hotel chain.

Lobby

As soon as you arrive at the hotel, our new and renovated reception will welcome you with open arms. And the transformation is real as the lobby area has undergone a full refurbishment. The old format offered three service positions while there are now two additional positions, making a total of five, and a specific area for customer service has been incorporated.

Furthermore, our sights are set on the future. The room keys are now electronic, and the plan is that soon you will be able to open your door by using your mobile phone. You didn’t expect that, did you?

At RIU we are set on making things easier for you so you can enjoy a carefree holiday. That is why many of the improvements are designed for a more carefree holiday. In order to speed things up we have enabled an adjacent payment gateway at the entrance exclusively for credit card payments, speeding up the payment process, as well as another gateway for Elite Club guests. And if that wasn’t enough, we have enabled the option for ordering room service via an application on your mobile phone. You can contact hotel reception and they will provide you with an instant and personalised follow-up.

Lobby Bar

One of the small pleasures in life is having a drink (or if you prefer, a soft drink) at the start your holiday. At the Riu Palace Macao, your wish is our command, so just opposite the reception is the lobby bar, “el Cubano”. An illustrious guest will welcome you:
The eternal Cuban, an historic figure, who has watched over his “castle” since the hotel opened in 1994.

The new decoration will make you feel as if you were there, with beautiful plants and flowers that give a cheerful Caribbean touch.

Also in front of the reception, the Elite Club Lounge has been added, for the exclusive use of Elite Club clients.

Bedrooms

So we’ve checked-in and enjoyed a little refreshment, but after such a long trip, we now really want to see our room that will be home for the next few days. It’s time to see… the new rooms!

All 476 rooms in the hotel have been completely refurbished, with quite significant changes to their layout. Some rooms have been lengthened to accommodate a sofa for an area to relax.

One of the most significant changes has been the upgrade in the rooms for new technologies. Guests will be able to use TV casting and enjoy the best channels on the smart TV and LED light sensors, so as not to wake up your companions at night. In addition, the showers are now more spacious and some rooms have desks and chairs in case you are fortunate enough to be able to telework from Punta Cana.

Main buffet

The main restaurant “el Patio” has a refreshing new look, as it has opened outwards, enabling a new area on the terrace so that guests have larger areas to enjoy their meals in comfort.

The buffets are now located in a separate space from the restaurant, with the large central island that offers cold starters, seafood, cheeses and daily specials taking pride of place. The client also has five live cooking stations at their disposal, with a variety of meats and fish, a Mediterranean buffet, a healthy buffet, as well as the roast of the day carved to order. A special mention for those with a sweet tooth, is the dessert and fruit island, where you can finish off your dinner with international pastries, a chocolate fountain with tropical fruits or local specialties.

Themed restaurants and bars

When you return home from your holidays, one of the first questions you are asked by your colleagues is whether you had a good rest, whether you went to the beach, and how the food was, in that order. As if the wide variety of dishes offered by our buffet was not enough, the Riu Palace Macao also has an extensive gastronomic offering.

The classics have not gone away, even though they have had a facelift, such as the Italian “Volare”, the Asian “Kabuki”, the fusion restaurant “Krystal” (and its impressive new LED light columns) and the “Steakhouse.”

Guests can now delight in some new additions: Pepe’s Food, a Sports bar, open 24 hours a day or Joe’s bar, an aperitif bar, near the restaurant area.

And for Elite Club members, they also have access to the select Elite Club Restaurant.

Pools and outdoor areas

The wise say that you cannot fully rest if you do not exercise your body and mind. This is no problem in our outdoor area, where apart from diving into one of the three pools for the use and enjoyment of our clients, you can also use the new RiuFit area. This is a space dedicated to various sports activities such as aeroyoga and nordic walking excursions and this will be a first for our Dominican hotels.

Another big attraction in our hotels are the shows put on by our entertainment team, who have a new upgraded performance area. Before the renovation, the entertainment area was closed but it has now been completely opened up, with two stages facing each other: one for the dancers and another for the musicians.

Elite Club customers also have access to the Elite Club Beach, providing premium drinks, right on the beach.
